Local Diving Completed – Obama Loves Wrecks

Yesterday was the completion of the local training for our DSAT Tec Deep student Hannah Lusby. From here on out it’s on to deeper waters where surface support is required to conduct this training safely. It’s fine to do beginner training on dive sites but without support the risk of an accident increases.

So on wednesday the 22nd of October we’ll dive the Unicorn Wreck aboard the MV Trident where we’ll use the comforts, support and crew to help conduct Hannah’s more difficult training in a safe and enjoyable manner.

Once that’s day is complete we’ll be off on the 3 day 3 night liveaboard to the HTMS (His Thai Majesty Service) Pangan to complete the course and do some experience dives.

Below are some images from diving yesterday at Chumphon Pinnacle.

In other news…unconfirmed… potential presidential nominee senator Barak Obama was key in helping the military come and identify the missing USS Lagarto back in 2005 because he was the senator of the state where the submarine came from. We couldn’t find anything on google.. mostly smear stuff about the election. If anyone knows a source for this story we would love to put it up.

Wreck Wednesday on Trident

Today Big Blue Tech accommodated 8 divers on the Trident exploring the Unicorn Wreck. Joining us were 8 certified fun divers and 3 Big Blue Staff Emily, Anna and Ricky who were working with PADI Course Director Jamie Macleod to receive their PADI Wreck Specialty Instructor Rating.

The diving was superb, limited visibility to about 10m below the thermocline and the surface was calm, hot and sunny.

After 2 great dives the fridge was unlocked and the bar was open. Sailing back to Koh Tao with a cold beer in one hand and a sense of accomplishment in the other.

Wreck Diving – Sunshine – New Trip

Today is great for many reasons.

1. The recent hurricane like conditions that sent weary travelers running for the vomit inducing boats off the island has subsided. The past 4 days has seen horizontal rain storms, high white capped seas and strong wind throwing coconuts like a castle siege. But today is hot sunny and calm, back to life like normal!

2. With the great weather we conducted a local wreck trip to the Hishidaiya Maru (Unicorn) with eager divers looking to explore a deep ocean wreck. The trip was successful and everyone came back with smiles and their “Done It” t-shirt so proudly worn by many on Koh Tao.

3. We have a Tec Deep 2 trip planned for the 23rd of August for those who choose that as part of their tech course we’ll be off exploring for 3 days and 3 nights.
