Speed Boat Diving in Similan Islands

High powered speed boat delivers technical diving to the pristine diving conditions of the Similan Islands

Similan Islands, Khao Lak, Thailand

Big Blue Tech ventured into the deep blue waters and crystal white beaches of the Similan Islands to conduct shallow water training for Francesco Recher who joins us on the west coast for some technical diving.

Ash Dunn and Francesco Recher are working together to train Francesco to the level of TDI Extended Range Diver and TDI Trimix Diver. Being as this is the first time we have dived with Francesco we had planned to go into a swimming pool to assess his skills and update any skills lost.

On this day an opportunity opened up to hitch a ride on one of speed boats that goes to the Similan Islands daily and thought this was an exciting alternative to diving in a swimming pool.

The boat, powered by 3X 225 horse power engines, roared into the similans in under an hour and immediately you could see the beautiful colors of the water on this side of Thailand. All shades of blue and aqua with visibility down to 20m from the surface.

The divers completed 2 training dives including all the basic foundational technical diving skills before introducing new and challenging skills specific to the courses Francesco is enrolled in.

This would not be the last unique diving experience for Francesco who joins us for some mixed has wreck diving the following day and finally a liveaboard a few days later.
